
Chicken Curry with our RUSTICA Pur Wok
Chicken curry is a popular dish from India known for its spicy flavor and creamy texture. There are many different variations of the dish, but the basic ingredients are usually chicken, onions, tomatoes, spices, and yogurt or cream.
We recently made a chicken curry with our RUSTICA Pur Wok and it was delicious! The result was tender, juicy chicken with a creamy sauce that was full of flavor.
What makes our wok from the RUSTICA Pur series so special
The deep, semi-circular shape of the wok ensures even heat distribution, allowing healthy frying and cooking. The base thickness of approx. 3 mm ensures optimal heat retention and the food stays warm for a long time.
What you need:
- 500 g chicken breast, cut into cubes
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 can of tomatoes (approx. 400g)
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (or more if you like it hotter)
- 1 cup of yogurt or cream (approx. 200ml)
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil (e.g. rapeseed oil or coconut oil)
And here's how it works:
- Heat the oil in your RUSTICA Pur Wok over medium heat.
- Add the onions and garlic and fry until they are soft and translucent. This will take a few minutes.
- Now add the chicken. Fry it until it is golden brown on all sides.
- Add the tomatoes, ginger, turmeric, cumin, coriander and chili powder. Mix well and fry briefly to allow the flavours to develop.
- Let the curry simmer until the sauce thickens a little, about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the yoghurt or cream and let the curry simmer for another 5 minutes until it becomes nice and creamy.
- Season the curry with salt and pepper. You may need a little more of one spice.
A few more tips:
- You can of course adjust the spices to your taste. If you like it spicier, use more chili powder.
- Vegetables like peppers, carrots, peas or cauliflower go great in curry. Simply add them together with the tomatoes.
- Serve the chicken curry with rice (basmati rice goes particularly well) or naan bread. A fresh salad or cucumber salad also tastes delicious with it.
